Determination of appropriate rainfed wheat varieties density in cold regions
Abstract:   (11995 Views)

In order to evaluate density effect on yield and yield components of rainfed wheat, an experiment was conducted in factorial based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications in Dryland Agricultural Research Station of Maragheh. The treatments were consisted of four seed rates (250, 350, 450 and 550 seed/m2) and six wheat varieties (V1=Azar2, V2=10Ghazaghestan98-99, V3=Kiraj/87-zhong291, V4=85K1.1//1D13.1/MLT/3/YE2453, V5=Gun91/Karl and V6=Rasad). The results of showed that the effects of variety on plant height, number of tillers, number of fertile tillers, green cover percentage, spike length, seeds/spike, 1000 grain weight, days to ripening, harvest index, productivity degree, spike/m2, biological and grain yield were significant. The effect of planting density (seed rates) on green cover percentage, spike length, spike/m², number of grain/spike, days to ripening, biological and grain yield were significant. Among the components of grain yield, only the number of spikes/m2 and the number of grain/spike were affected by seed rate. The highest number of spike/m2 was related to the highest seed rate (550 seed/m2), but the highest number of grain/spike was related to the lowest seed rate (250 seed/m2). Among the studied traits, the highest positive correlation with grain yield was related to biological yield, plant height and ground cover percentage at flowering stage, respectively. According to results there was no significant difference among different seed rates in Azar2, 85K1.1//1D13.1/MLT/3/YE2453 and Gun91/Karl with yields of 2374, 1708.5 and 1942/4 kg/ha, respectively. Therefore, in order to save amount of used 250 seed/m2 was recommend for planting. Among three levels of 350, 450 and 550 seed/m2 there was not significant difference in terms of yield in Rasad, 10Ghazaghestan98-99 and Kiraj/87-zhong291 with yields of 2292, 2082.3 and 1793.5 kg/ha1, respectively. So for the genotypes the density of 350 seed/m2 was recommended for planting.
