Soybean (Glycine max L.) is grown all over the world as an important commercial crop. Thus finding an optimal location for crops can increase economic benefits and reduce negative environmental consequences. Accordingly, this study sought to determine suitable areas for growing soybean based on climatic elements in Golestan province. Thus, the requirements of the crop and climatic variables factors were determined, and maps were prepared on the basis of their output. The studied-climatic variables were average, minimum and maximum temperatures as well as precipitation. The data of last 10 years were collected and recorded from 25 weather stations located within the study area. The data were standardized by fuzzy method. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used for weighing the criteria. Finally, soybean cultivation potential map was prepared by using weighted linear combination (WLC) in the software IDRISI. Zoning of lands was carried out in 4 classes (high suitable, suitable, less suitable and non-suitable). Results showed that in weighing criteria by the analytic hierarchy process in the soybean the maximum coefficient was related to precipitation during the growing season (0.266). Minimum temperatures in the growth with 0.043 had the lowest coefficient in ranking. Generally, the results of the weighted linear combination of climate showed that 34.75 percent of the lands for soybean production areas were located in high suitable zones. In addition, limiting factor for the soybean cultivation in Golestan province can be attributed to precipitation.
