An experiment was conducted to identify some secondary metabolites, including tannins, anthocyanins, saponins, terpenoids and anthraquinones in the aqueous extract and flavonoids, flavanols in the ethanol extract in Polygonum convolvulus L. using the standard phytochemical methods. Allelopathic potential of aqueous extract of different concentrations (Control, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of the studied weed which was prepared from suspension of 10% were evaluated separately in the laboratory and pot culture on different aspects of germination and growth stages (from trifoliate stage till phonological stage of the booting) of wheat. Terpenoids, flavonoids and flavanols were identified in the alcoholic extract of the studied weed, while the compound of the tannins was detected only in water extract. Data analysis of the different concentrations of aqueous extract of Polygonum convolvulus on different wheat germination parameters showed that the different concentrations had significant effects (at 1% level) on studied traits except for the rate of germination. The maximum inhibitory effect on root and shoot length, germination percent and vigor index was caused at the rate of 100 percentage treatment which were 47.08, 93.66, 84.93 and 96.09 % respectively. Variance analysis of various concentrations of Polygonum convolvulus on different studied traits in pot culture showed that aqueous extract of various concentrations had significant effect on leaf area, leaf dry weight and stem dry weight only at the 5% level.
