Interaction effects of salicylic acid spraying and different irrigation levels on some quantity and quality traits, and osmoregulators in basil (Ocimum basilicum)
Abstract:   (30946 Views)

Basil is an annual medicinal plant from Lamiaceae which can be helpful in healing diabetes by decreasing the amount of blood sugar and it can also decreases hypotension. This experiment was done to evaluate the effect of salicylic acid foliar on some quantity, quality traits and osmoregulators of Basil on drought stress condition in Research Field at Zabol University in 2011. The experiment was conducted in split plot in the form of randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Irrigation regime, included: 90, 75 and 60% of FC as main factors and sub-plots included salicylic acid foliar application in four levels: Non- foliar application (control), 1, 2 and 3 mili

mol. The foliar application was done at 10 days intervals in three stages from 30 days after planting. Results showed that the effect of irrigation and foliar application of salicylic add was significant on all of the mentioned traits. Although higher osmoregulators and oil percentage were observed (soluble carbohydrate and proline) by increasing drought stress caused by excessive irrigation interval, the number of leaves and lateral stem per plant, shoot dry weight, RWC, oil percent, yield and leaf chlorophyll decreased. Using Salicylic acid had significant increasing effect on all studied traits. Results showed that the drought stress caused high percentage of oil in basil that improved the qualitative traits.
